How You Should Face Fat By Facing Facts

Picture this....... You wake up in the morning and first thing on your mind is to check yourself out in the mirror: Hmm, I look pretty grubby today, better hit the shower. On the way, you take a minute to step onto your bathroom scale, look down at the reading, and reel back in horror. Five pounds more today since last week? How could I have put on five pounds in seven days?

Sound familiar?

This is an all too common situation many of us face regularly. But you really should not be surprised by the appearance of a few more pounds on your already roundish frame, if you have failed to face the facts about how they get there in the first place.

So how does fat get stored on your body then?

First, take stock of your body.

Are you a rather tall and lanky, or are you stocky and chubby? People tend to gain weight if they are either mesomorphs or endomorphs.

A mesomorph is someone who is genetically gifted with the ability to build muscle fast (and a lot of it actually.) An endomorph is someone who packs on the fat (and a lot of it too, unfortunately.) People who are stocky and chubby may be a combination of both the mesomorph and endomorph body types, so they do have quite a lot of muscle underneath that surface layer of fat, so the end effect is that they are perceived as rather big people.

On the other hand, there are also people who are rather pure endomorphic, meaning they gain weight in terms of bodyfat rather than muscle. (If you are tall and lanky, and never gain a pound even if you eat 24/7, then you are called an ectomorph.)

Second, what type of occupation do you have?

If you are a white-collar worker, most likely you spend a lot of time just sitting down in front of your desk or PC doing office work. These types of people are more likely to gain bodyfat, compared to the blue-collar workers who have to do a lot of routinary physical exertion. It is like a trade-off: the white-collar workers get the prestige jobs but may pay for it with sedentary activities that will reduce their quality of life and may cause them to become obese and perhaps even ill.

Third, do the social groups around you encourage a physically fit lifestyle?

Or are the people around you more likely to hand you another serving of lasagna drenched in cheese and tell you: you are just big boned, do not worry about it. Do your family members love to go swimming on weekends and hiking when possible? Or is everyone just parked around the TV set at all hours, watching movies and sitcoms until they fall asleep or get hungry?

One church has this sign at its door:

Show me your friends and I show you the future. If everyone around you loves being physically fit, you will be influenced to take part in physical activities too. But if the people you hang out with love being couch potatoes, then you will probably be sucked into that vortex into becoming another couch potato as well.

You face fat by facing facts.

This will give you the initiative as to what your future course of action should be: to switch gears and adopt a better healthier lifestyle; or to stay on your present vector position and just see what happens.

But you probably knew that already anyway right?

So how do you act now?
